Forced Upgrade

I originally downloaded when they first announced Toad for Mac. Worked fine and then voila…cant use it without upgrading the app. After upgrading is not able to load its resources for any of the windows and it deleted all my connections that I had set up. This is not what I expected from toad. Error: Could not create the view: com.quest.toadext.views.SchemaBrowser

Disconnects in the middle of long queries

Pretty interface but Totally useless

Not quite ready for Mac

Toad on Windows is great, but the Mac version is buggy and crashes often. A number of functions like the search for text in DB Objects just plain do not work, I click on the search button and nothing happens. Hoping this gets better soon, but right now I just dont find it usable which is a shame because there really are very limited good ORACLE tools available for Mac.

Latest update destroyed my ability to work on Oracle

So, Ive used Toad for a few months now without too many issues, except for (of course) the fact that it hangs every single time connectivity is interrupted for any reason, crashes pretty much all the time, and is otherwise just slow and poorly designed. All of that I could live with, except the latest update made it so that I can no longer use Toad for Mac with Oracle. I can still connect to the database, log in, see the list of Schemas and Tables, and open a table. Every tab seems to work on the Table View except for "Columns" and "Data", which are now completely blank. When I run the SQL Monitor and copy the queries its executing over to a new worksheet and execute them manually, they are functioning as expected. Its just another obvious bug that they didnt bother to test adequately that has now caused me to decide that this company cant be trusted with something as critical as database management.

Crashes on open, Hard to get support

I downloaded/installed Toad from the App Store and have not yet been able to open it. Upon opening, I get a spinning beachball until I force quit. Tried to get support from the website, but had to jump through too many hoops to leave a support request and gave up due to not wanting to waste anymore time on a broken app.

Nope, pure junk

Nice that Dell took a shot at creating TOAD for the rapidly exploding OSX user community, but this effort should be considered an abject failure at this point, including the 2.3.0 version. Functionality is VERY limited, the application doesn’t have any design flow, it’s just a cobbled together group of limited functions. I’d happily pay for a quality Mac version of TOAD, but this thing is pure absolute garbage right now. Oracle’s free SQL-Developer for OSX is far superior. It just seems that the Dell TOAD for OSX is a side pet project for someone who is trying to learn how to program in the OSX environment, and not a serious effort by a professional team. Honestly Dell, unless you’re going to be serious about this product, just please stop, you’re embarassing yourselves. I updated this review on 10/29/2015 to reflect the latest release 2.3.0.

Quality in the new version

Used to use Toad for Oracle many years ago. Switched to dbeaver when I moved companies. Old company had a site license. When I noticed I could pick it up for nothing now, decided to give it a go. Have not had any problems with Oracle, Mysql, or Mongo at this point. Seems to work better than some other alternatives.

Incomplete SSH Tunneling

I downloaded this as a replacement for pgAdmin and immediately attempted to connect to one of my Postgre DB’s. However; it only supports SSH tunneling via username and password, as opposed to username and ID file (id_rsa). Since maintaining my own local SSH tunnels independently of the software is a drag on my workflow, I went back to pgAdmin. It’s a pity… it looked promising.

Very outdated

When I launch an app in 2016 on a MacBook with a Retina display and it is all pixelated I know it’s very old app which has not been updated in a long time. I found alternatives which were much better.

CSV Export is broken

The CSV export function is broken in this new release: it always tries to export SQL statements no matter what option you choose.

CSV export is broken in version 2.3.6

A very useful and free SQL client, can you please restore the ability to output properly formatted .csv files? .csv output which worked perfectly up until this release, and fix a the following issue which has been present for at least a year where Toad *always* hangs with the following error when you try to quit: “An error has occurred. See the log file /users/<username>/Library/Containers/com.dell.Toad/Data/workspace/.metadata/.log" That .log file contains the following near the top of the file: !ENTRY org.eclipse.core.jobs 2 2 2015-08-06 11:52:56.445 !MESSAGE Job found still running after platform shutdown. Jobs should be canceled by the plugin that scheduled them during shutdown: org.eclipse.ui.internal.progress.ProgressViewUpdater$1 When it hangs, the cursor turns into a spinning beach ball and I have to force quit Toad to kill it. The issue on quit has been reported many times!

Great Free App

Philosophically I don’t know how much the price of the app should factor into the review. I have lower expectations for free apps than I do for ones that I pay thousands for. I think Toad makes interacting with databases much easier and for the most part it does not seem to have many bugs and is quite powerful.
